Prevention Programs

The Behavioral Health Department offers an array of Prevention Programs committed to providing resources to prevent domestic violence, suicide, methamphetamine and tobacco use in our communities. Prevention Specialists are prepared to offer training to community members to raise awareness in how to mentor youth, prevent drug use, and how to recognize suicidal ideation and react appropriately. By equipping our community members with effective tools, we can lay a foundation for the healthy future generations to come.

Some of the available resources include:

  • COMPASS: Developed by the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (ANDVSA), COMPASS equips leaders with tools to effectively mentor youth.
  • QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Training: A simple yet effective one-hour class that will teach you how to recognize signs of suicide, and how to appropriately intervene.
  • Meth 360: A program designed to educate parents on the warning signs of meth use and production, and how to intervene. This grass roots driven initiative is designed to unite the community and give them tools to prevent the spread of this dangerous drug.
  • Tobacco Prevention & Education
