Tobacco Prevention and Education

Tobacco Prevention and Education

The Tobacco Prevention and Education Program is open to all members of the Kodiak Community. We offer educational programs covering topics from e-cigarettes, secondhand/thirdhand smoke exposure, smokefree housing (tenants/landlords) and tobacco addiction to smokefree workplace policy adoption.

Tobacco Prevention and Education is available to speak to youth groups, school classrooms and assemblies, Head Start programs, health fairs, home school programs, Teen Court referrals, colleges, business owners, government programs, tribal entities and others. Our program works collaboratively throughout the State and Gulf Coast Region to reduce the prevalence of tobacco use by participating in the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout, Alaska Federation of Natives, Alaska Tobacco Control Alliance, ATCA Youth Leaders, World No Tobacco Day and Through with Chew.

If someone is ready to quit using tobacco, we will meet with them and assist them in obtaining the best possible option for their quit attempt. This may include direct referral to the free Alaska’s Tobacco Quit Line (1-800-784-8669) where individuals can receive telephone, text or online counseling and/or nicotine patch/gum.
